I'm an Iowan born and raised currently playing music in Brooklyn, NY. During my college years, I took a year off to go to guitar school in Hollywood and live with a Norweigan named Jardar. Musician's Institute was more like the School of Rock meets high school than a college, but it was quite amazing nonetheless. What they failed to mention in the brochure, though, was that doing something for 10 hours a day might not be that healthy. Enter a stress injury piled on an old shoulder injury from high school, and you've got a guitar school drop out. I moved back to Iowa City, did shoulder rehab and went to the University of Iowa. I also worked at an Irish pub, started writing songs again and created my own major.My first song I ever wrote was for a class project in high school about parenting called “Growth and Development.” I realized at that point that I could start writing songs instead of doing class projects. This became a reoccurring theme. My first band was Cam's Dream followed by Degrees of Freedom. Both bands were real good times. Now it’s mostly me and my guitar. I'm in New York, where the biggest city can also be small and ultra connected. I like stoping in and playing music with the crew at Bar 4 on Tuesdays and am often playing shows around town.
This fall should be an action-packed one. I have a tour home to the Midwest as well as shows at The Rockwood Music Hall and at Spike Hill in NYC. It’ll be a fun run, hopefully I’ll make it to your neck of the woods soon.
